6205

Single row deep groove ball bearings are particularly versatile, have low friction and are optimized for low noise and low vibration, which enables high rotational speeds. They accommodate radial and axial loads in both directions, are easy to mount, and require less maintenance than many other bearing types. Also available on request with special sized bore and/or outside diameters, suitable for reworked shafts and housings.

  • Simple, versatile and robust design
  • Low friction
  • High-speed capability
  • Accommodate radial and axial loads in both directions
  • Require little maintenance

6205 Bearing Dimensions & Ratings

Bore, outside diameter and width follow the ISO 15:2017 metric series, so the 6205 is a direct interchange across brands. Values below apply to the standard steel-cage, chrome-steel (GCr15) execution.

Parameter Metric Imperial
Bore diameter (d) 25 mm 0.9843 in
Outside diameter (D) 52 mm 2.0472 in
Width (B) 15 mm 0.5906 in
Basic dynamic load rating (C) 1,100 kgf / 10.8 kN
Basic static load rating (C0) 730 kgf / 7.2 kN
Limiting speed — open 15,000 rpm
Limiting speed — ZZ / 2RS 13,000 rpm
Weight 128 g

Inside the 6205 Construction

The raceway groove is machined slightly larger than the ball radius, giving point contact between balls and ring. That geometry is what lets a single row of balls carry radial load and axial load in both directions at once.

6205 bearing cutaway showing inner ring, outer ring, balls and cage
1

Inner ring

Presses onto the 25 mm shaft and forms the rotating raceway the balls run against.

2

Outer ring

Seats in the 52 mm housing bore as the stationary raceway, closing the race circuit.

3

Ball complement

Chrome-steel balls make point contact with both raceways, keeping rolling friction low even at speed.

4

Cage / retainer

Spaces the balls evenly around the raceway and stops them from touching each other during rotation.

OPEN
No shield

Raceway exposed on both sides. Lowest running temperature and easiest to re-grease, but needs a clean operating environment.

ZZ
Metal shields

Stamped steel shields keep out dust and coarse contaminants while retaining factory grease, with minimal added drag.

2RS
Rubber seals

Contact rubber seals give the strongest protection against moisture and fine dust, suited to harsher duty cycles.

Best-Fit Applications for 6205

Standardized dimensions, a 1,100 kgf dynamic rating and 15,000 rpm limiting speed make the 6205 a common choice wherever a 25 mm shaft needs to spin fast under moderate radial and axial load.

Electric motors

Motor and pump shaft support at moderate to high rpm

Automotive

Wheel bearings carrying road and steering loads

Agricultural machinery

Tractors, seeders and plows in dusty, continuous duty

Power tools

Drills, grinders and lawnmowers needing high-speed spin-up

Household appliances

Washing machine drums and fan motors

Common Questions About the 6205

Answers to the questions we hear most often from engineers and buyers evaluating the 6205 — sizing, pricing and how it compares to its closest neighbors in the 62-series family.

Bearing designation code marked on the outer ring
QWhat does “6205” mean on a bearing?

Each digit encodes a spec. “6” identifies a single-row deep groove ball bearing, “2” is the light (02) dimension series, and “05” is the bore code — multiply by 5 to get the bore in millimeters (05 × 5 = 25 mm). So the code alone tells you it's a light-series ball bearing built around a 25 mm shaft, before you ever measure it.

Calipers measuring bearing bore and outer diameter
QWhat are the standard dimensions of a 6205?

25 mm bore × 52 mm outer diameter × 15 mm width, per the ISO 15 metric series. Because this is a standardized envelope rather than a proprietary spec, a 6205 from any qualified manufacturer — SKF, NSK, NTN, FAG or a certified factory-direct source — will interchange in the same housing and shaft.

QWhat does a 6205 typically cost?

Price swings with brand, seal type (OPEN / ZZ / 2RS), precision grade and order volume. Factory-direct chrome-steel 6205s in bulk run well under branded retail pricing sold in small quantities. Rather than quote one number, share your target volume and seal type and we'll return a landed price on request.

Two bearings of different outer diameter side by side
Q6205 vs 6305 — what's the difference?

Both share a 25 mm bore, but the 6305 belongs to the medium (03) series rather than light (02): larger OD (62 mm vs 52 mm) and width (17 mm vs 15 mm) give it roughly 45% more dynamic load capacity (≈1,610 kgf vs 1,100 kgf). Choose 6305 when the shaft stays at 25 mm but the load needs more margin than a 6205 can offer.

Bearing shaft fitting comparison
Q6205 vs 6206 — what's the difference?

The 6206 stays in the same light (02) series as the 6205 but is sized for a 30 mm shaft instead of 25 mm, with a correspondingly larger OD (62 mm) and width (16 mm). It isn't a heavier-duty version of the 6205 — it's simply built for a different bore, so the choice comes down to your shaft diameter, not load requirements alone.
